The painting show I had at the Larcada Gallery in New York in 1974 ended my white-on-white period—from then on, my painting would be infused with color and pattern. This pattern-on-pattern still life features china, paperweights, and swatches of Designers Guild fabric prints. It is one of the works bought by an Iranian couple for their shop in Tehran in 1977, right before the Ayatollah overthrew the Shah.
One of the Indian paintings that lead me to combine colorful patterns in my painting and textiles.
